Once you decide to lift weights, you need to wade in carefully. Consult a Doctor to be sure you can safely begin a weight lifting fitness program. Learn the proper techniques to avoid serious injury to muscles and joints. Once injury occurs, it can be a long road back to lifting again.

Decide what you want to achieve from lifting weights and how lifting weights will change your life. Set some goals. Do you want to become stronger and have larger muscles? Do you want to cut your body fat? Do you want to have more body size and mass? Once you know your goals you can begin.

Keep a journal. This will help you chart progress and advances. As well as, help you concentrate and focus on achieving fitness.

Begin with a body building routine that will develop your frame into a solid form to get your muscles ready for a stronger, more advanced workout. Lift on a regular basis so you meet the time frame for each goal you set. The more consistent you are: the more rewards you will achieve.

Learn how to track your progress. If you are not achieving your goals, find out why. Once you know why, you can change your fitness routine to meet your fitness expectations. Remember some forms of weight lifting will give you different results. If you want to build muscle, heavier weights will work better. If you just want to tone your muscles, as opposed to bulking up, slightly lighter weights will do the job.

Don’t forget, if you want to build more muscle, you will also need to increase your protein intake. There are many ways to accomplish this. Visit your local health food store to find all the protein rich products they offer. Usually these products will have plenty of protein without adding too much fat to your diet. Their employees are full of knowledge they will be happy to share with you.
