The author is obviously very competent and sincere; however, as I must work to support my family and pets, the receipes for pet food take way too much preparation to be practical for most working folks. I have instead now turned to better products, such as Merricks, to feed my dog and so far, so good.

This used book I ordered came to me in mint condition. Also, I always choose the cheapest shipping available and I received the book sooner than expected. I ordered it on December 10th thinking because of the Holidays coming up it might be a while before I received it. I got it in less than a week. I am very pleased with MarJams service. Thank you so much for the great customer service.

**Updated 05-13-09**

I originally give this book a 2 star and mentioned that it was difficult to read. Well, I was wrong! I gave this book another reading and used Dr. Pitcairn's suggestions on my Rottweiler, Zeus. It has produced miracles on my dog!

Zeus has always had something wrong with him in one way or another. The vet has never actually pin pointed his problems. He suffered with stiff neck, limping, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of energy, hot spots and the list can go on and on. I even had acupuncture done on him, and it only helped temporary.

Due to the dog food scare that happened a while ago, although his food was not on the list, it was too close to home. I used Dr. Pitcairn's raw diet "Doggie Oats". Zeus is a large dog (over 110 lbs.) and it would cost a lot to feed him a raw diet. I have found that the Doggie Oats diet for him is budget friendly. I can find the ground turkey on sale and freeze it until needed (I actually bought a new refrigerator, those French doors with freezer on the bottom for his food, and I love it too). The rest of his items are human friendly and I have no problem with feeding him this diet. I only give him the "Healthy Powder", liquid glucosamine, along with the Doggie Oat raw diet, and my 10 ½ year old Rottweiler acts like he is 4 years old!

I never thought Zeus would make it to 9 years old. He is now 3 months away from being 11 years old! I am amazed! I am very happy to come across Dr. Pitcairn's book. Even our vet is surprised with Zeus' health. Since Zeus has been on the raw diet, he has been to the vet twice in the past year...once for hot spots (a common problem with him since he was a puppy. This past summer, we only had one case vs. in the past with 2 or more cases of hot spots during the summer), and his senior annual exam. The vet even lowered Zeus' thyroid medication. I love the book and recommend it to all dog loving parents. Several of my dog loving friends have borrowed this book and their dogs are doing amazing well!!!!!

If you are in to homeopathy and want to use such toxins as Poison ivy and belladonna on your beloved pet, then this book is for you. Mine is in the trash can.

Overall, the book was pretty informative. I don't think that people who read this book should follow every single step thought. There are certain things that seem like complete nonsence, and ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, there are helpful tips, but half the information in this book I already knew.
